Implementation of a V2P-based VRU Warning System with C-V2X Technology

Cellular vehicle-to-everything(C-V2X) technology can protect vulnerable road users(VRUs) in traffic accidents. Smartphones are the most common portable devices for VRUs, but they do not support direct communication between vehicles and pedestrians. To address this problem, we propose a vehicle-to-pedestrian collision warning system that includes phone case designed smartphone. It allows VRUs to communicate directly with connected vehicles(CVs) through C-V2X. A method based on s-t-coordinates is proposed help avoid CVs. Firstly, World Geodetic System-1984(WGS-84) coordinates of VRU CV transformed Universal Transverse Mercator(UTM) coordinates. Then calculated. The lateral longitudinal distance them determined. Finally, time-to-collision(TTC) used determine time alert driver. verify effectiveness system, conduct experiments communication, positioning, scenario. show effectively low latency its reliable range more than 200 meters different scenarios. positioning average accuracy 0.83 open-sky scenario, which satisfies lane-level requirement applications. scenario indicate our driver both straight curved roads. comparative illustrate outperforms conventional method(CM) existing pedestrian system(PAS).
